2012/2016 DREAMS from my magic lamp

Luci, ombre, colore, bambini con occhi chiusi. È un sogno? È finzione? Dove ci troviamo? Guardando le fotografie di Elena Givone ci chiediamo se siamo fatti della stessa sostanza dei sogni, se in questa vita, realtà o sogno che sia, esista un momento, in cui tutto può succedere, in cui le nostre paure svaniscono e il paesaggio diventa un telaio dove creare il nostro destino. Ed è proprio quella sospensione, quel distacco dalla parola risveglio, quell’immisurabile sensazione di immaginare, e immaginarci in un mondo diverso, un piccolo ma forte atto di volontà; un sublime volo che la nostra mente è capace di fare, il potere di crederci, credere in noi stessi, nella possibilità di un cambiamento, di mescolare la consapevolezza del nostro passato e presente e inventare il futuro. Sembra questo Il dialogo che si instaura tra l’artista e i suoi interlocutori, un tacito patto, una promessa di scambio alla quale lei stessa partecipa, per ritrovare alla veglia lo sguardo di quei sogni, che si fan veri come fiori su fogli di carta.

Elena Givone’s charming glance at the ambition of the Free Education Unit’s people in Ahungalla, Sri Lanka. “I wish that everyone gets a magic lamp” Wasanthi, 19. A number of lovely, gentle photographs full of poetic flourish and propelled by a slow, shuffling groove, “Dreams from my Magic Lamp” feels like witnessing preserved innocence. This collection of bemused countenance tied together all of Elena Givone’s photographical und lyrical strands and wrapped them around a package that defines her as both an artist and a poet so effectively that we would spend the next several weeks insistently searching for our own ineradicable wishes. Looking at these images, we are under the charm of ageless personality revealing possibly the first reaction to the requirement of the photographer. Their eyes closed firmly, eagerly, mischievously, earnestly or even barely we get to watch people like ourselves holding the magic lamp gingerly, firmly or as a valuable source of inspiration. In Elena’s photographs we literally sense dreams coming true and with Wasanthi’s wish we are abducted into felicity.
